Associate Dean (research)

Professor Paul Chung

As Associate Dean (Research) I am responsible for providing vision and leadership in research for the Faculty and to impart motivation and provide support to departmental Research Coordinators, helping them achieve departmental research targets and goals amongst their fellow colleagues.

I ensure effective and efficient management of the Faculty research business through various Faculty wide and university wide bodies and committees and work with other senior managers to contribute to the wider University research agenda.

I oversee, with the Dean, Faculty RAE submissions and Personal Research Plans and monitor research income and output in the departments. Additionally, I monitor external Fellowship and Student opportunities and administer the Faculty's part-funded studentship scheme.

Associate Dean (teaching)

Dr Martin Harrison
Department of Mathematical Sciences

Martin Harrison is Associate Dean (Teaching) for the Faculty of Science. He has wide expertise in the management of learning and teaching and his role is to support the Dean of Science and the University's Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching) in administering and upholding the quality of learning and teaching throughout the Faculty.

He is Senior Lecturer in the Mathematics Education Centre. The Mathematics Education Centre (MEC) was established in May 2002 to provide the environment and expertise to ensure that all Loughborough students have the opportunity to develop their mathematical skills to the best of their ability. It is the focus for a number of significant national initiatives concerned with the teaching of mathematics to engineers and mathematics support throughout higher education. Its aim is to become an internationally-recognised centre of excellence in the learning, teaching and support of mathematics and statistics in higher education.

Dr Harrison is project director for the HELM (Helping Engineers Learn Mathematics) Project. HELM is a major 3-year curriculum development project to support the mathematical education of engineering students funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) through phase 4 of the Fund for the Development for Teaching and Learning (FDTL4).
Martin Harrison has been Editor of the International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology since January 1997.

He is a Chartered Mathematician and member of the Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications.

Faculty Accountant

Bharat Patel

As Faculty Accountant, I help departments to prepare their business plans and consolidate them into a faculty position. These now have to be updated on a quarterly basis and reported through to the Performance Monitoring Group. I also keep records of expenditure and commitments against the faculty strategic fund and cost proposals that are under consideration by the deanery. I also try to act as the first point of contact with the Finance Office. Within the Finance Office, I am also the accountant for the Support Services and help prepare the University budget.

Faculty Personnel Advisor

Anne Lamb

As Faculty Personnel Adviser, I provide an advice service to head of departments, line managers and individual members of staff on a range of personnel issues, including recruitment and selection, employment law, immigration and nationality (as related to employment), good practice, internal policies and procedures, terms and conditions of service, managing absence, discipline etc.

My Faculty role takes up the majority of my time, but I am also involved in reviewing recruitment and retention issues within the University. I am also Secretary to the Technical Staff Negotiating Sub-Committee. The Personnel Services home page is at: http://www.lboro.ac.uk/admin/personnel.

Faculty Administrative Liaison Officer

Jo Corlett

As the Science Faculty Administrative Liaison Officer I act as the communication point for administrative matters, in liaison with the Faculty Secretary. Where necessary I provide support, advice and training to academic and administrative staff in such matters, either personally or in liaison with the relevant University department.

I co-ordinate the quarterly meetings of Faculty Administrative Assistants / Executive Officers which are held to support and inform the Faculty administrative activity and to disseminate best practice across its departments. In addition to this I represent the Faculty on various University committees and working groups, and I am always happy to receive comments and ideas to take forward to these groups.

As my Faculty role is carried out in conjunction with my full time post as Administrator of the School of Mathematics and Physics, I can be contacted at any time in the Mathematical Sciences department.

Faculty E-learning Officer

Lee Barnett

As the Online Learning Development Officer I am responsible for the development, distribution, and maintenance of all online learning resources for the Faculty of Science, ensuring accessibility and design / programming standards are maintained at all times.
I can create a wide range of engaging online learning applications and computer assisted assessment packages, as well as interactive animations, technical diagrams and 3D content to suit a wide range of purposes.

Additionally, I provide guidance and support to those staff who wish to develop their own resources whilst ensuring a consistent structured approach to online learning development.
