Appointment of Associate Deans
Selection
1. The Dean contacts all Heads of Departments asking them to nominate suitable individuals from within their department or elsewhere who might wish to be considered.
2. The Faculty Secretary contacts all members of the Directorate and the Faculty Board asking them to forward suggestions/nominations to the Dean.
3. The Dean and the relevant Pro-Vice-Chancellor (PVC) will interview the nominated candidate(s) who stated their willingness to be considered.
4. Following interviews, the Dean and relevant PVC will make recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
5. The appointment will require approval from Senate and Council.
6. The Faculty Secretary should notify members of the Directorate and the Faculty Board of the outcome of the process.
Period of Appointment
It is suggested that Associate Deans should normally be appointed for a period of three years in the first instance with a possible extension of not more than three further years. At the end of the first three-year period, the full selection procedure should be repeated.
