Equality & Diversity Objectives
Loughborough University's six key equality & diversity objectives
Through the Single Equality Scheme Action Plan the University (Council in July 2011) had already consulted on and approved the following equality objectives.
They were:-
- Improve access across the campus for students, staff & visitors
- Improving access to all services for students
- Improve Employment opportunities for all
The above objectives promote and advance equality of opportunity.
The following three objectives help to further advance the public equality duty in terms of promoting equality of opportunity and good relations in terms of the protected characteristics (and non-protected characteristics) and eliminating unlawful discrimination against protected characteristics.
These three objectives Council approved in November 2011 after various key stakeholders were consulted:-
- To ensure that the University’s strategic decision-making committees are able, through membership and activities, to understand the needs and perspectives of protected characteristics/groups and address equality and diversity issues through their decisions/activities.
- To improve E&D monitoring of protected characteristics over the next few years to ensure that we are not discriminating unintentionally and so that we can target areas of under and over – representation for action as required and are able to provide annual monitoring information on staff and students as required.
- To raise awareness of the Equality Act 2010 and our legal responsibilities with our staff through a mandatory half-day training course (Respecting Diversity), online e-learning E&D courses and bespoke E&D courses for Schools and Departments.’
